fuckin A-B is buying Goose Island
John Hall, founder of Goose Island, is trying to put a pretty face on this, which I guess is what you do in a situation like this.
A-B says they won’t change anything that Goose Island is doing already. But if you read all that you’ll see that Greg Hall, the brewmaster, is stepping down, which seems like a pretty big change to me, and not a positive one. He will be replaced by a guy named Brett Porter, which gives me a tasty idea for a dark sour beer, but that’s another topic entirely.
I really can’t think of a single Anheuser-Busch brand that excites me. I’d go all chicken little and call this the walmartification of the beer world only I think it’s more like Walmart is the budmillcoors of the retail world. American beer was so monolithic and shitty for so long. Can a good craft brand like Goose Island survive and thrive in the same corporate environment that spews out Michelob Ultra Pomegranate Raspberry, Michelada, Shock Top, not to mention the big ones like your Bud and Busch Lights?
I fucking despair
