The Jackal
Review Date: May 20, 1999
Rating:
This role was a slight departure for Bruce, in that he plays the
bad guy. His character in this movie is a master of disguise, an efficient and
ruthless killer. Bruce is made no less masculine by the fact that his
character in this movie feigns homosexuality in one scene, and the movie is made no
less kick-ass by the presence of Richard Gere.
This is a very exciting movie. Bruce's character is a highly paid,
impossible-to-catch assassin who is hired, the FBI thinks, to kill the Secretary of
State. Richard Gere is an IRA terrorist currently in prison in the U.S. who helps
the investigation because a) he's actually seen this ghost, and b) he's got
a score to settle with him. Sidney Poitier plays the FBI agent in charge of the
manhunt.
